Boxford 5″ VSL Screw Cutting Centre Metal Lathe Metric 3 Phase Ostia Tools (3108)

Ostia Tools offer for sale this Boxford 5″ VSL Mk3 Long Bed Lathe. 

These VSL lathes rarely come up for sale and this is the more sought after long bed version. 

Couple of points to mention on this machine. 

– The colour is not original. The machine has been repainted with Hammerite Wild Thyme and it could probably do with touching up in some places. 

– The coolant pump is single phase but the machine is 3 phase. As its currently wired, you need a single phase socket for the pump and a 3 phase one for the machine. It could be rewired to all run from the 3 phase but it would most likely suit a VFD conversion to single phase.

– The bed is quite badly worn. It can be seen with the naked eye and felt with the hand the wear on the bed. Disappointing really considering the rarity of the machine. 

– The panel on the motor side is a remanufactured replacement. The original would have had some louvred vents and this one has not been painted. It does the job and is very well made. 

– It does come with drawbar and collet set but the collets are not the normal 5C ones usually found with this machine. As such the collets do not fit the collet closer. However, Im including the set anyway as they came with the machine and could be repurposed. 

– it is missing the rear splash guard and would normally come with a 4 jaw chuck which is also missing. You will also need an L00 Spindle spanner which I believe can be purchased on ebay

We have fitted new wipers, a new perspex guard and replumbed in the coolant pump with a new flexible metal spout

Comes with quick change tool post with 4 tool holders and a 3 jaw chuck with both internal and external gripping jaws but they are not set matched.
